I’m from Jerantut, a gateway to Taman Negara.

My friend wanted to go to Taman Negara and ask me to organize. Since I’m from Jerantut, so I decided to bring my friends to Taman Negara without hiring any agent.

1st day, two of my friends took the bus from Klang bus station to Temerloh, a nearby town from Jerantut. They did not manage to get the direct bus from Klang to Temerloh, that was why I had to take one hour travel to Temerloh town to fetch them.

2nd day, another four of my friends took the bus from Penang to Temerloh and they took another bus from Temerloh to Jerantut. After taking lunch, we went to Taman Negara by the NKS shuttle bus which cost us RM 25.00 per person. The shuttle bus were available at 8.30am and 1.30pm.

After 2 hours journey, we arrived at our destination. We crossed the river by the crossing boat with the fare of RM 1.00. Then we direct to our camp site and set our camp there which only cost us RM 5.00 per person. There were also camp and equipment could be rented with a reasonable price.

After that, we jungle trekked to the Canopy walkway which the distance was 1.5km from outside.Ticket priced at RM 5.00 per person for adult and children at RM 3.00. If get the guided tour for the walkway, it would cost around RM 35.00 per person which I thought were unnecessary since we could go there by ourselves. The walkway opens from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm (Saturday – Thursday) 9.00 am to 12.00 noon (Friday).

We prepared the dinner by ourselves. Although our cooking was not good, we still feel delicious. 9.30pm we joined the night jungle walk cost RM 35.00 per person. It took us 1.5 hours for the whole walk. I did not really see anything from this jungle walk even I brought the torch light. It was too dark!

Gua Telinga (Ear Cave)

3rd day morning, we packed up and ready to explore ear cave (Gua Telinga). A guided tour was RM 45.00 per person. Along the trekking, we could find out many beautiful limestone, termites colonies, bats and snake racers. Some of the journey were quite challenging!

At night, we joined the Night Jungle Safari by 4 wheels drive vehicle. It took around 2 hours in the jungle. Maybe because of the car engine sound, we seldom see the animals.

Boat Ride to Lata Berkoh

Lata Berkoh is a spectacular cascade that marks the limit of easy navigability on the river. There are deep pool below the cascade, delightful for swimming but hazardous for swimmers! We took a boat for the beautiful scenery at RM 120 for 4 persons then we had to take a short trek to the waterfall.

Is the time for us to go back to Jerantut because we chose the shuttle river buses from Kuala Tahan to Kuala Tembeling Jetty at 2pm which cost us RM 25 per person. After approximately 3 hours, we reached at Kuala Tembeling Jetty and we took NKS daily shuttle bus to go back to Jerantut town at RM 5.00 per person.

  9. Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan – Terry & Vivayor Blog ~ Sharing Is Wonderful ~…

this is a blog post about my travel experience at Taman NEgara, Kuala Tahan, Malaysia. And there are a lot of related information as well. cheers!…

  10. andrewho says:

    HI Terry,
Thks for your sharing. The fact is I have been there about 2years ago.The information is just what a traveller need to make the trip there without much of a hassle.
My advice is to go direct from Jerantut to K.Tahan(Tmn Park) by the “jungle”bus avoiding the river trip from K.Tembeling Jetty to safe time and cost and above all, getting your bladder “burst” on the long trip by boat. Rest assured, when you are there at the Tmn.Park, you can’t avoid not taking any of the river trips to visit many of the Park’s site by boat.
This is more than make up for your initial “missed” boat trip at the beginning of our journey.
    Take this advice to heart.
    Good luck.

  12. terrytsang says:

emm.. 2 days 1 night is still ok, but you must plan your time and activities well and compact. But i suggest spend more days there cos it’s good to enjoy your days leisurely, haha :)

  13. guest says:

Are the trails to the canopy walk, bukit teresek, lata berkoh, gua telinga etc clearly marked? Is it safe for two females to be trekking without a guide?

  14. terrytsang says:

trail to canopy walk and buikt teresek clearly marked, gua telinga and late berkoh need to go by boat 1st to reach the place, so should hire a tour guide.

  15. vivayor says:

if go canopy walk, should be no problem to jungle trekking without a guide…

  16. guest says:

thank you. i was considering getting a package, but perhaps we can now consider booking the train tickets and accommodation on our own, and hire a guide from the information centre just for the waterfall and cave. hope it won’t be a problem getting the boat ticket without booking in advance!

  17. vivayor says:

u wanna go there by boat? it takes 3 hours. u can take car to go there also. if u wanna try boat, actually when u go inside when u go waterfall and cave, u’ll always have chance to take boat. but it all depends on you. should be no problem to get boat ticket i think…enjoy urself there and do share with us more with ur experience.

  18. Liana says:

Hi Terry, thanks for all the details of your trip, your friends are lucky to have you. Do you think it’s possible to start from Jerantut and do the canopy walk and return to Jerantut in one day? And is the canopy walk ok for kids (aged 5 and 8)? Thanks for your advice. Liana

  19. terrytsang says:

Hi, Liana. Nice to meet you, haha. It’s possible depend what your transport u go and back Jerantut, cos normally it will take around 30-45 minutes to do the canopy walk. If you drive with car, then it should be around 2 hours from Jerantut Town.

Furthermore, the canopy walkaway is okay with kids, but you need to make sure your kids aware of the things CAN DO and CANNOT DO first while walking. Wish you enjoy your journey there :)

Hi, My name is faber. Since you went “taman negara” before, I think you can give some comments for me. I want to visit taman negara. When is the most suitable time to visit? Can we visit it in december this year? I hear that it is rainy season now… thank you

  23. terrytsang says:

Hi faber, the most suitable time to visit Taman Negara will be from March till September, where you can feel the warm of sun and cold of river :) but the end of year in Malaysia is rainy season, you probably will see all days raining and all places are wet and slippery… wish u have a nice journey there, cheers!

  24. Cherryl says:

I would like to know have you try out the NKS services before? I’m organising a trip from KL for about 15-20 people. Considering to take their package.

  25. terrytsang says:

hi, cherryl. i haven’t try NKS service before, but as i know NKS is one of the main and experienced tour agent for Taman Negara for a long time already.

  26. Sue says:

    Hi there,

Can anyone tell me how’s the road condition like from Jerantut to Kuala Tahan? We are planning to drive in by car (normal 1.5/ 1.8 car). Safety is our main concern as we are travelling with 2 young kids. Would appreciate any feedbacks. Thanks.

  27. terrytsang says:

    hi sue.

the road condition from Jerantut to Taman Negara is fine, no hard rock or steep mountain, just a normal road, only the last part before reach will probably got sand dust and small stones.

Remember to drive safe and wish you have a nice journey there!

  28. Stanley says:

    Hi,

Planning to drive down to Taman Negara this weekend. Would appreciate some feedback from you.

    1. Was told that we will need to park at the public car park at Kuala Tahan before taking the boat over to Mutiara Resort (where we will be staying). Is it safe to park at the public parking? Is it guarded 24/7? Is there any private or covered parking around there? Know that there are some resorts there, can we park in some of the resorts there if we are not guest to the resorts? Don’t mind paying a bit more.

    2. Any recommendation of good eating places / restaurants along the way? Will be driving from KL to Kuala Tahan.

    Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Stanley
