Pulau Kukup is located South-west of Johor in Pontian District as a fishing village of Kampung Air Masin in Kukup Laut and it is only a small isolated island from mainland. Pulau Kukup is an island covered by mangrove forest and to protect the mangrove forest, Kukup is a national park under the Johor State Park Corporation Enactment 1989 since 27 March 1997. Pulau Kukup is full with marine life which become the main sources to the income for local fisherman.

How to get there

Visitors can access Kukup town from various direction:

1) Using the North-South Highway, exit at Simpang Renggam toll and turn left towards Benut and proceed to Pontian/Kukup

2) Johor Bahru through Skudai and proceed to Pontian

3) Foreign visitors from Singapore and Indonesia can access the town through ferry services.

(Sources:http://travelmalaysiaguide.com/pulau-kukup-johor/ )

There were 12 of us went from Skudai towards Pulau Kukup, spent around 1 hour 20 minutes by car. When we reached there, we called our agent out and she brought us to the house we rented. They actually prepared some lunch such as fry mee, curry chicken, red bean soup etc. for us but we reached there already late evening and our stomach was full of burger!

It was so hot during February time. We opened the air-condition in the living room and started to think how to kill the time before dinner was prepared. Some of us started to sing karaoke but the songs in the house are not the updated songs. We are hardly to find songs that we liked. Some of the couples started to walk around in the small fishing village. The houses there are built on top of the sea and therefore the toilet in the house for what you pass out, is directly go down to the sea!

When the night falls down, the owner of the house came in a family to barbecue food for us. There were fish, prawn, satay, chicken wings, corn and so on. We felt so full and chit chatting because we seldom met each other after graduated from university. After dinner, the owner will do the cleaning and we continued our entertainment in the house. We sang karaoke, played game, chatting and finally went to bed. Girls only a few therefore we slept inside the room and guys felt that the other rooms are small so they all slept in the living room.

Second day, when we woke up, the owner of the house bought us simple breakfast with kuih and nasi lemak. There was also newspaper for us to read. We can also make the milo ourselves using the hot water in the house. After taking the breakfast, we followed our tour agent to fish farm (kelong).

Located in the seas of Kukup are a lot of fish farms.

This time we not managed to go to the mangrove forest because the facilities inside were under maintainance. After visiting kelong, we waited the ferry to carry us out and we walked back to our house to pack.

After packing, we had a seafood lunch and back to Skudai to attend the dinner organised by our juniors. On the way to take our cars, we also managed to buy the famous “ang gu kuih” in Pulau Kukup. This trip costs us RM 80 per person including

1) Tea time in the first day (or shall I call it as lunch?)

2) Barbecue dinner in the first day

3) Breakfast in the second day

4) Seafood lunch in the second day

5) Overnight in the house with all those entertainments, bathrooms etc.

6) A tour to Kelong

At night, we attended the dinner. That night, our theme that we set for ourselves is red colour. Therefore, we all wore red colour in the night. We were late to the night due to we not familiar with the places and our number were too large. It was hard to arrange our transport towards the night organised in Kulai. In the night, we actually not much time to exchange views and got to know better with juniors. It seemed that we just rush there to have a dinner and then rush back home…

(Gua Tempurung)

After graduated, we decided to go to Desaru Beach near Kota Tinggi, Johor Bharu to have a relaxing trip. We drove from Taman University, Skudai. Desaru is a beautiful beach in Southeastern Johor, Peninsular Malaysia.

Desaru Beach-Johor Bharu Tourist Spot

We went there by my car and we spent around 2 hours to reach Desaru. There are a few ways to go to Desaru as followings:

By bus
There are direct bus services around three times a day from Johor Bahru’s Larkin Terminal to Bandar Penawar. Alternatively, a bus service from Larkin to Kota Tinggi, then from Kota Tinggi to Bandar Penawar.
From Bandar Penawar, you can either take a cab (teksi) or wait the minibus. You can also take a cab from Kota Tinggi directly to Desaru.

By car
Drive to Pasir Gudang Highway and follow Kota Tinggi Direction. You will pass by Ulu Tiram. And from there, there will be brown colour signboard that directing you to Desaru Beach.

By boat
The passenger ferry Changi Ferry Terminal in Singapore and Tanjong Belungkor Ferry Terminal. There are also bumboat services from Changi Point Ferry Terminal to the fishing village of Pengerang and you may take cab to Desaru from there.

If you are not driving to Desaru, you are hard to go around since it is hard to find public transportation nearby. Therefore, we drove to Desaru.

When we reached Desaru, it was about time to took lunch and we had seafood in a famous seafood town “Sungai Rengit“.

We headed to Desaru beach and trying to find the chalet that we searched from website, ”Desaru Holiday Chalet“. We went on weekdays and therefore our room rate was RM120. If you are only two persons, you can choose only standard single. The room rate during weekend is RM 180.

The chalet is like a small house with living area, bathroom and one double bedroom. There are no television in the chalet and it is really a time for you to relax without disturbing from all those technologies. Besides, the hot shower is not provided in the standard single whereby you have to pay extra to get those facilities.

Inside Chalet

The chalet was situated near the sea and when we went out from the chalet, we can see the sea with the peaceful wave sound. We decided to move the chairs to the outside of our house and rest while waiting the day became not so hot. The wave sound and the beautiful scene really caused me feel very relaxing.

Chalet Sea View

After taking a short rest, we found out that there was a lot of mosquitoes around and we decided to drive down to Petronas to buy coil, drinks and some food.

We then went down to the beach. We walked from one side to another and started playing the sand. I not really played sand before in the beach. Terry suddenly suggested that we should bring camera to take down some photos of our “product”. On the way back to the beach after taking camera, we meet a troop of monkey passed by. Maybe because of having “mums and kids” among the monkeys, some of the monkeys tended to attack us to protect themselves. Although the monkeys not really attacked us, we still felt very shock. We still continue our journey back to the beach and Terry started making his castle!!! I snapped some of his photo with his castle and we decided to move back to take bath.

Sea and Beach

We went to the restaurant and ate some simple food. It was nothing special but just malay fried mee. After dinner, the night still young. What we normally did in the city like watching television, surfing and etc. was not provided in the chalet and some more we came here for relaxing. Therefore we did not directly go backto our room but we stopped the car along the way we went back to our chalet.

We sat inside the car, opened the window so that we can listen to the song of the sea. It was relaxing and calm. Life is always so busy and we even seldom to chit chat after back from work. We looked at the star and moon while listening to the wave, we shared regarding our dream, our work, our problem…

Sunrise at Desaru Beach

The next day, we woke up at 5.00am because we planned to go to see sunrise in the beach. When we stepped out from our chalet, the sky still dark. We waited until the sky became brighter and brighter but still could not really see the sunrise. At first we thought that maybe it was too cloudy and we missed the sunrise. We were about to leave then we finally saw what we expected for. The sun slowly rose up from the sea, a bit a bit more and finally with the whole round shape appeared. We was so excited because it was the first time we saw sunrise in the beach after last time we watch the sunset in the Tip of Borneo (Kindly referred to the post of Kudat, Sabah).

我的系院 （Faculty of Built Environment）。

Studio

（Faculty of Computer Science and Information System）毕业的，在这个系院附近还有一个电脑研究所（C.I.C.T）， 里面有很多电脑供我们去使用，可是要小心电脑病毒！

It was a relaxing and no-plan trip… Tanjung Sepat, was being chosen as we wanted to explore this small town with a lot of delicious food and the important thing can hear the wave sound on the seaside. Haha.

My previous post has written about Pantai Morib & Pantai Bagan Lalang, and these 2 places are nearby Tanjung Sepat as well.

On the way to Tanjung Sepat

How to get there?

1) Kesas Highway from Puchong there and headed towards Klang exit,

2) Turn left to Banting at the Klang exit

3) Continue the journey and you just followed Morib or Tanjung Sepat signboard.

You would pass by Teluk Panglima Garang, Jenjarom, Banting, Morib Gold Coast and finally you can see Tanjung Sepat.

Baywatch Restaurant

Finally was the dinner time – Seafood, hurray!!! This restaurant has a great and relaxing environment, you could enjoy the food while the wave sound was accompanying you all the time. The night fell silently and we just chit chat and listen to the wave sound at the same time…
